String bets are a cheap attempt to gather additional information. Basically I can get a read on two different actions for no extra cost. I don't see how it makes the betting process clearer... if you can't grasp the concept of a re-raise immediately, you probably shouldn't be playing poker! Then again... don't tap the aquarium... A string bet is simply making the betting process clear to everyone, especially the less experienced poker players. Which explains why the only people who complain about string bets are the more experienced poker players. I also like questionable content, though, like Arrested Development, it is experienced better in large chunks rather than episodically. Opposition to string bets is misplaced.
