A string-bet is a re-raise in stages, rather than one single action. So saying "I see your X... and raise you Y!" is a string bet.

But none of this actually has anything to do with what you were talking about. I'm just making trouble!

Huh ... I obviously need to learn more about Poker. I'm used to black jack, and frankly I'm a horrible actor so I'm not that great at poker, though I do know the basics for some variations. So here's my question how would I have stated that and not have been a string bet?

Ooh, our first debate.

String bets are a cheap attempt to gather additional information. Basically I can get a read on two different actions for no extra cost. I don't see how it makes the betting process clearer... if you can't grasp the concept of a re-raise immediately, you probably shouldn't be playing poker! Then again... don't tap the aquarium...

Opposition to string bets is misplaced. A string bet is simply making the betting process clear to everyone, especially the less experienced poker players. Which explains why the only people who complain about string bets are the more experienced poker players.

I also like questionable content, though, like Arrested Development, it is experienced better in large chunks rather than episodically.

Well, that's a string bet, Craig. But we'll allow it just this once.
