It is now official! My Heinz commercial contest entry, “3250 MILES“, has been announced as one of the ten semi-finalists in the Top This contest! That means I edged out over 2000 other entries, which is an honor in its own right, but let’s be honest: there’s $57,000 on the line here, and it’s time to get serious! Please, please, please go to this page and vote! There’s a lot of good entries, I think you’ll agree, and it will be a real contest for sure. So vote! Tell your friends to vote! And (yes, I hate this too) vote once a day, because they let you do that.
For those of you who don’t know, to produce this commercial, Jesse and I really did travel the 3250 miles (actually, closer to 3900) on and off the beaten path between Los Angeles and Boston – with some major detours in between. Along the way we found a great many curiosities of Americana, many of which we sadly could not include in this thirty second piece. I owe a great deal to the many kind and sympathetic people we encountered along the way, without whom this project would have been impossible. I also owe special thanks to Austin Wintory for the beautiful music; Jesse Vigil for being my constant traveling companion and Murphy’s Pub drinking buddy; Todd Belcher for his exceptional voice talents; and Lauren Holt for not only doing some on-the-spot line producing upon our arrival in Pittsburgh, but also for kindly providing us with warm beds. And now, almost a year after we started this long voyage, all of those efforts have paid off!
The contest runs for three weeks and the winner is solely determined by popular vote at this point, so again, Vote Early and Vote Often! And please, please, please, pass it along to your friends!
Did you vote yet? Because you should!
Super thanks!
